ABOUT CENTER FOR INTIMACY JUSTICE
Center for Intimacy Justice (CIJ) is a nonprofit whose first cornerstone program area is working to change censorship and digital suppression of information about sexual and reproductive health and rights, and sexual wellness, for women and people of diverse genders. Today, content and ads supporting health of people with vulvas (e.g. for menopause, pelvic pain, abortion, contraception, endometriosis, and more) are frequently rejected by Big Tech platforms, misclassified as “adult” (considered sexual or inappropriate) or political. This censorship is applied in ways that are biased based on gender and other lenses – which blocks access to valuable and needed health information, and holds back women, nonbinary, and other entrepreneurs. CIJ works to change this – engaging in media, legal, and policy strategies, from building evidence through investigations, to advocacy and press campaigns, to informing government agencies, and more.
In January 2022, CIJ published a report in the New York Times, followed by 100+ media outlets, revealing that Meta systemically rejects ads about women and people of underrepresented gender’s health. This report prompted a US Senate committee to demand answers from Meta, led to Hillary Clinton tweeting on the issue, and resulted in legal investigations. CIJ also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission on this issue and engaged 5 Congress members (including 3 former US Presidential candidates) to speak out in support.
In February, 2025, CIJ published the largest investigation on these issues to date: a new report about four major tech platforms suppressing information about women’s health. CIJ is now leading strategies that leverage an unprecedented act in the European Union – the Digital Service Act – and is working with critical intergovernmental organizations to conduct new research studies into digital suppression of sexuality education information worldwide. CIJ is highly respected in the women’s health and digital rights fields and has attracted support from funders such as Omidyar Network, Archewell Foundation (Meghan Markle & Prince Harry), Pivotal Ventures (Melinda Gates), The Case For Her, Digital Freedom Fund, and others in CIJ’s first years.

This Director will also drive critical fundraising for the organization and this digital suppression work.
Furthermore, in terms of strategy development, this Director will update, expand and newly develop CIJ programs and strategies considering the current moment that we are in – making sure that the voices and needs of CIJ’s stakeholders are heard, and that the strategic shifts needed due to political and legal changes are leveraged in CIJ’s strategies, to create maximum impact.
